The Painted Mill

This is the top of the dumbwaiter in The Painted Mill and how Quaint With Paint gets its fabulous finds to its space on the second floor! What a shoulder workout!

Quaint With Paint wanted to share some of the history of The Painted Mill with you.

The Painted Mill was once a a feed warehouse owned by the Reckord family of Harford County. The building was built in the late 1800s alongside the Ma & Pa Railroad.  The Ma & Pa Railroad was a short railroad that connected York, PA and Baltimore.  The part of the railroad that ran through Fallston only ran from 1901 to 1954.  The railroad was used for transporting supplies and later passengers.  The building was never used to mill feed or as feed store.  It was only used as a feed warehouse.

Over the years, the building has been used as an antique store.  In the fall of 2013 Jennifer Jennings-Janson, Summer Old Summer New owner and creator of The Whitehouse Market decided the old Fallston feed warehouse would be a perfect home for a monthly vintage tag sale and vintage gift shop.  The tag sale will run the fourth weekend of the month.  The gift shop is opening late spring 2014.

finished secretary

Quaint With Paint finished this Ethan Allen secretary awhile ago, but it finally got paired with a great chair in a fun, modern fabric. What do you think?

before and after

Quaint With Paint also came home with the matching Lane end table and painted it in Duck Egg!
The lamp is its own transformation. It is very old and was very brownish orange. Now it is Paris Grey with an Old White wash, clear and dark wax with hints of the old coming through in the detail. It is paired with a burlap drum shade. What do you think?

Another before and after

This is a Lane coffee table Quaint With Paint came home with.  It is SOLID wood! It was not very attractive and shall  we say clunky.  Now it is painted in Duck Egg with new hardware (glass knobs and silver handles.) The inside of the drawer even features a newsprint bottom.

The Painted Mill

Quaint With Paint spent the day at The Painted Mill with the other vendors working on making the space beautiful! Take a peek at the checkout area with the feeds written in chalk, the old doors from Cape May on the front of the counter, the pretty chandeliers overhead, and the "curtains" in the entry!

Quaint Wirh Paint's space got a ceiling today and an old door hung!

Can't wait to see you all at the opening April 25-27!

Spring!

Ok! Quaint With Paint is done with winter! Maybe if spring decorations come out we won't have more snow! What do you think? Quaint With Paint used things from around the house: burlap scraps, nest found in the yard, and beehive cut out of tree!

Don't you think black and white is a great look? This very old table, which stores its leaf inside itself, got a fresh new look painted in Annie Sloan Old White and Maison Blanche Wrought Iron.  The chairs are the biggest makeover! They have all new caning, new board, two inch foam, and upholstered by a professional!
Quaint With Paint has been working on this Lane cedar trunk for awhile now. It was painted in Annie Sloan French Linen, which is a great neutral color, but it just wasn't love at first sight. It was boring. So I sanded and sanded and brought some of the wood through.  Still wasn't right. After much contemplating, I thought I would try a wash with Old White. Now I like it! The wash seemed to add some interest. It is protected with clear and dark wax which is really hard to see from the picture. I am not sure if Quaint With Paint will be selling this beauty. I'll let you know after I find someone to help me carry it upstairs! The pillows, however, are available!

Quaint With Paint is really thinking fun in the sun today! This solid maple drop leaf table is painted in Annie Sloan Florence with clear wax. Quaint With Paint thinks it is very fun and would be a great addition to any home. How about you?

Radio, who knew?

On a recent picking trip I came home with this box. I thought it was cute. The top is broken, but clamped together and I think I can fill the crack and make it look nice. My son and I were looking at it. I didn't understand the holes inside. He noticed that there were hinges on the inside. He said, I think this was a radio. We found a manufacturer in it, David Grimes. Andrew got out the WD-40 and got the hinges working and did some internet research. Sure enough, he was right! This is an old radio box!

So, what do you think of it? My son thinks I should buy an old radio and return it to its former glory. I think it would be a nice box for storage, maybe for cell phones or iPads since the cords can fit through the holes and not be seen. What's your opinion?

I believe this is the oldest piece I have worked on. I cannot seem to find a manufacturer to try and date it, but isn't it beautiful? I did my best to paint around the wooden emblem on the front. I thought it was too pretty to cover up. The roping detail along the sides is very nice also. This antique is painted in Annie Sloan Old White and waxed with clear wax.

Who doesn't need something at the end of their bed to sit on and put extra clothes in? How about a coffee table? Do you see the secret drawer on the bottom?  I love this 70's inspired Lane cedar chest. The outside was a little rough when I got it, but now it is smooth and sleek painted in Annie Sloan Duck Egg.

Buffet transformation

There is not much to say about this transformation!  This buffet has a beautiful bowed front and a ton of storage! It is painted in Annie Sloan Old White with slight distressing and gold along the beautiful side detail.  This, along with many other items, are for sale. Please visit www.quaintwithpaint.com.

I know it's not Transformation Tuesday yet, but I have spent this snow day learning how to add items to my website and working on my social media.  This is no small task! There were a few tears shed in the process, but I think I am starting to catch on. A BIG THANK YOU to Bob Lynch who is helping me! If you need a website, etc., send me a message, I'll give you his number!

Anyway, this cute stand I think has made a dramatic transformation! It was dated, dirty and ugly. but very solid. I decided to use a very bold color, and I think it would fit nice in a corner somewhere adding a little something!

How about this transformation?  A friend of mine had this cabinet in her house.  It fit perfectly in her entryway. She has owned it for a number of years, and it was purchased from the Bombay Company, I believe. The problem? Her house is classic country! She has a farmhouse table, classic country curtains, wood stove, etc. She wanted it gone! I thought the cabinet had potential. It offers nice lines and cute hardware. She agreed to let me paint it.  I painted it in Annie Sloan Arles and heavily distressed it, which is so much fun to do, and waxed it with clear wax. I absolutely love the result. No more Asian inspired formal. Now it is warm, weathered and country!
